RVMZH4300-VTL300CIR Installation Guide

The Components

The easiest way to understand how a standard backup camera system is installed is by understanding the components that make up about 90% of our backup camera systems. This particular guide is designated for the RVMZH4300 and VTL300CIR backup camera system. A backup camera system can be broken down into five basic components (See picture above).

The Monitor, (A1): Some monitors like the RVMZH4300 shown above will only have a single cable coming out of the monitor itself but don’t be alarmed as this single lead cable usually connects to a power harness that possesses all of the video inputs and power connections

(A2): The RVMZH4300 will come with this special piece designed to hide any visible cables coming out of the monitor for a clean finish.

The Power Harness, (A3): The monitor will come with a power harness that will attach to the single wire coming out of the monitor. This particular monitor has a power harness with two yellow video inputs, a red wire that will always go to 12 volt power and a black wire that needs to go to ground. Some monitors like this one have what is known as a trigger wire (usually green or blue) that determines how the monitor turns on.

The Camera, (A4): The VTL300CIR will have a single cable coming out of the camera but will later need to be attached to its power harness that houses its video and power connections.

The Power Harness, (A5): The camera will also need a separate power harness to draw power, this plug is often the exact same as the one found on the monitor or as in this case it can be a bit different, in either case it serves the same purpose of drawing power through the red cable and black will need to be grounded.

This particular harness also houses the RCA plug that will eventually need to be connected to the monitor and a designated reverse image button that controls the camera’s image flipping capabilities.

***Just because a monitor does not have a trigger wire does not mean it can only be turned on manually. Most monitors do not have a trigger wire because they posses what is known as a video sense feature and will turn on automatically as soon as they sense a video feed.

Eight Step Installation Process

Step 1: Connect the power harness(A2)into the monitors designated power input.

Step 2: Draw power to the monitor by connecting the red wire to 12 volt power and the black to ground. Power to the monitor is usually drawn at the fuse box.

Step 3: The trigger wire determines how you want the monitor to turn on. The default installation procedure is to tie it in with the red wire to 12 volt power to turn it on and off manually, but you can also draw power at the ignition switch to turn on as soon as the vehicle is on or take it to a reverse lead to only turn on when the car is in reverse.

Step 4: The RVMZH4300 is designed to replace any rear view mirror that connects to the windshield using a standard windshield mount (See picture below). Remove the single screw that holds your current mirror in place using a phillips screw driver and the mirror should slide right off. Slide the monitor where the former mirror was positioned and secure it using that same single screw.

Step 5: Connect the power harness (A4) into the cameras designated power input.

Step 6: Draw power to the camera by connecting the red wire to 12 volt power and the black to ground. Power to the camera is usually drawn directly at the reverse tail light.

Step 7: The VTL300CIR has a special reverse image button that allows it to be used as a forward facing camera or a standard rear view camera. The button’s effect will take place as soon as the camera is powered off then powered up again, so do not be alarmed if the image does not flip initially.

Step 8: Now that the monitor is drawing power at the fuse box and the camera is drawing power directly at the reverse tail light all you need to do is connect both systems using the standard yellow RCA cable (A5)***If the yellow RCA cable has two red power wires on each end, we advise that you disregard their use as they are not needed if the camera and monitor are already drawing power individually.

Now you should have a working unit that should turn on as you see fit.
